Mashantucket, Conn. (March 2, 2015) – The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods® Resort Casino today announced that its 2014 Annual MPTN Giving Campaign generated more than $134,000 for local charities in need. This includes $40,807 for Community Health Charities of New England, $70,271 for United Way of Southeastern Connecticut, and $23,266 for Employee Emergency Assistance Fund.  In addition, Foxwoods’ annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign collected hundreds of new, unwrapped children’s toys, blankets, pajamas, jackets and diapers for local families in need, and all proceeds were donated to the United Way of Southeastern Connecticut and its “Tommy Toy” Fund program.

“It’s been a privilege to have been able to help our fellow neighbors and families in need this year,” said Chairman Rodney Butler of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. “We’re thankful for the support of our guests, team members, and the general public who joined our efforts to bring joy to our community.”

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of those that are most in need. It is the mission of the Tribal Nation and resort casino to strengthen the surrounding communities, and provide contributions to organizations and programs primarily within its neighborhoods and beyond that support Native American tribes, human services, community development, diversity, education and the environment.

Community Health Charities of New England unites caring donors in the workplace with the nation's most trusted health charities. Employee donations are used to support these member charities and provide research, patient services and outreach in local communities.  Employees designate the charity or charities they wish to support, and that’s where they go.

The United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is a locally-based non-profit organization located in New London, Connecticut. Donations are invested in four priority areas that create real, lasting change in New London County. This includes community wellness, thriving children, basic needs, and promoting independence. Research indicates that certain areas require particular attention in the community and therefore, all of United Way efforts address at least one of these priorities.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods recognize that team members may experience hardships that require emergency financial assistance. The Employee Emergency Assistance Fund is a program available to assist eligible employees who are experiencing a personal financial crisis and who have exhausted all other avenues for obtaining assistance. It is designed to address an event or catastrophe that is sudden, unexpected, and critical, such as a family crisis, acute illness, natural disaster or fire. Funds are donated to the program through employee and non-employee generosity in support of employees during times of need.

About the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation

The Mashantucket Pequots are a native Algonquin people in southeastern Connecticut who endured centuries of conflict and survive today on the oldest continuously occupied reservation in the U.S., dating to its establishment in 1666.  As the first native people within the borders of the continental United States to suffer attempted genocidal massacre by Puritan Colonists in 1637, the Pequots and their repatriation is an unprecedented story of restoration exhibited in detail at the Tribe’s world-class Museum and Research Center (
